When you’re looking to grow personally or deepen intimacy in your relationships, it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. Many people come to me wondering about the difference between sex therapy and sex coaching, so allow me to share how I see it: While both paths are about fostering healthier relationships and deeper connections, the way we go about it is very different. Here’s how I approach sex coaching and how it’s distinct from traditional therapy.
Traditional Therapy: A One-Way, Talk-Based Approach
Sex therapy, like most forms of psychotherapy, is a one-way street. The therapist listens, offers guidance, and provides insights, while you share your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It’s a process focused on uncovering the root causes of issues, analyzing patterns, and exploring theoretical strategies for change.
In therapy, the relationship is professional and non-physical. Sexuality might be discussed, but it’s not typically explored experientially.
Sex Coaching: A Relational Laboratory
Sex coaching with me is a whole different ballgame. I like to think of our sessions as a relational laboratory — a space where we practice the awareness and skills needed to create honest, genuine, and sexually satisfying relationships. We move beyond just talking about theory and dive into real-time learning through experience.
Here’s what that looks like:
Experiential Skill-Building: Instead of just talking, we’ll actively practice. Together, we’ll work on things like:
Setting boundaries with clarity and kindness.
Asking for consent in ways that build erotic tension.
Role-playing scenarios, like navigating a tough conversation or approaching a date.
Exploring energy and visualization techniques to amplify erotic energy.
Mutual Engagement: With your consent, we may include two-way touch in our sessions. This could involve holding, snuggling, or other clothed, consensual forms of touch. These interactions help us both tune into honest reflections, feelings, and responses, creating deeper awareness and connection.
Playful Exploration: I believe in the power of play and curiosity. Our sessions are a safe space for you to experiment with new behaviors, build confidence, and release shame around your sexuality and performance.
What Sex Coaching Is Not
I want to be crystal clear: sex coaching is neither sex therapy nor sex work. Here’s what you can expect:
Clothing Stays On: Sessions are fully clothed to maintain boundaries and ensure comfort.
No Sexual Acts: There is no nudity, intercourse, or genital stimulation involved.
Consent is Key: Every exercise and interaction is based on mutual consent and respect for personal boundaries.
What You’ll Gain from Sex Coaching
My goal as your coach is to help you unlock your erotic energy, deepen your intimate connections, and give you practical tools to thrive in your relationships. Here’s what clients often walk away with:
Confidence in expressing their desires and needs.
Skills for tuning into their own and their partner’s cues.
A clear understanding of their boundaries and how to communicate them effectively.
Techniques for cultivating secure attachments and releasing shame around sexuality.
Co-Creating the Experience
Every session we have together is uniquely tailored to you. We’ll start by talking about where you’re feeling stuck, what you want more of in your life, and what’s holding you back. From there, we’ll create exercises that let you practice and embody these discoveries in a safe, supportive environment.
Whether we meet virtually or in person, our work together is dynamic, hands-on, and empowering. My hope is that you’ll leave each session feeling more connected to yourself, more confident in your relationships, and ready to embrace your full potential for sexual and emotional fulfillment.
